Strong Women. Strong Canada. Strong World.
Description of Poster
The International Women's Day and International Women's Week 2009 poster is in portrait format. At the bottom, in black, capitalized, sans-serif characters on a white background, the poster reads, "International Women's Day, March 8, 2010."
The theme of International Women's Day 2010 is: Strong Women. Strong Canada. Strong World.
The words of this theme dominate the poster, with each word occupying one line filling the width of the page from top to bottom, as follows:
- On the first line, "Strong" is set in bold, grey, capitalized, sans-serif characters, margin to margin. The letter "o" appears in the form of a stylized women's symbol (which normally appears as a circle with a small cross or plus sign attached to the lower axis of the circle), portrayed in blue as if painted rapidly by hand with a paint brush. It is set at an angle, directed upward toward the left.
- On the second line, the word "women" is set in regular font, red, capitalized, sans-serif characters, margin to margin. The characters are about half the height of the characters forming the word "Strong."
- On the third line, "Strong" is set in bold, grey, capitalized, sans-serif characters, margin to margin. The letter "o" appears in the form of a maple leaf, portrayed as a realistic-looking autumnal leaf in red and yellow. It is set at an angle, directed upward toward the right.
- On the fourth line, the word "Canada" is set in regular font, red, capitalized, sans-serif characters, margin to margin. The characters are about half the height of the characters forming the word "Strong."
- On the fifth line, "Strong" is set in bold, grey, capitalized, sans-serif characters, margin to margin. The letter "o" appears in the form of the planet earth, as viewed from space, in full colour, showing white clouds, the great mass of blue oceans and green land mass of North America located centrally on the globe.
- On the sixth line, the word "world" is set in regular font, red, capitalized, sans-serif characters, margin to margin. The characters are about half the height of the characters forming the word "Strong."
The images of the women's symbol, maple leaf and planet earth, each forming the bold "o" of the words "strong" give an impression of importance of women's contributions, in Canada and around the world.
At the bottom, the Status of Women Canada graphic signature and the "Canada" wordmark appear in the lower left‑ and right‑hand corners of the poster respectively.
The poster is printed back-to-back, with English on one side and French on the other. Flat, the poster is 48.26 centimetres wide by 59.69 centimetres high (19 inches wide by 23.5 inches high). Folded, the poster is 23.7 centimetres by 30 centimetres (9.3 inches by 11.8 inches).
