Working in Partnership to End Violence Against Women and Girls

Status of Women Canada was to solicit funding proposals for projects that will contribute to ending violence against women and girls in Canada.

Violence against women and girls affects us all. It is both a cause and a consequence of gender inequality. It weakens the fabric of Canadian society. It takes a heavy toll on individuals, families, workplaces and communities.

Status of Women Canada works to advance equality for women and girls in Canada. One of the ways it does this is through the Women’s Program, which provides funding to support projects that focus on changing the environment that hinders gender equality. It does not fund direct services to women such as beds in shelters, occupational training, personal development, individual or group counselling, or outreach services. Potential applicants should read the document Is the Women’s Program the right match for me? and consult Women’s Program staff to determine if a proposed project corresponds with the focus of the Women’s Program and the Call for Proposals.

Proposed projects can address a wide variety of issues related to violence against women and girls, but must include, and will be assessed on, the following points:

• focus on improving or transforming the environment that perpetuates or contributes to violence against women and girls or that puts women and girls at risk of violence;
• confirmed key decision-makers and community leaders to work towards ending violence against women and girls within the project; and
• potential to create sustainable change beyond the life of the project.

Project Elements

Under this Call for Proposals applicants will need to describe:

1. the specific issue to be addressed, why this issue is of particular importance/relevance in your community, and how the project will help to advance equality for women and girls in Canada;
2. the approach and activities that will be undertaken to address the issue, including how key decision makers and/or community leaders will be actively involved in the project;
3. the short and medium term results the proposed project will achieve, including what sustainable change can potentially be created that will continue beyond the life of the project.

Project Deliverables (After Approval)

Month 4

• Detailed work plan, performance measurement plan, risk measurement framework, and other project documentation, as required.

Month 12

• Progress reports (narrative and financial), and other project documents, as required.

Month 24 (or as determined)

• Progress reports (narrative and financial), and other project documents, as required.

Month 36 (or as determined)

• Final report (narrative and financial)

Note: Performance reporting requirements and specific timelines for reporting will be determined after the proposed project has been approved.
