Improving Financial and Growth Opportunities for Women Business Owners

Women entrepreneurs

A project in northeastern Ontario introduced women entrepreneurs to a new way to make local and regional business connections: “Biz Clusters.” The project improved business development programs and supports which allowed women entrepreneurs to either strengthen their existing businesses or help them grow new ones. A regional support network for women entrepreneurs was established, with representation from government, NGOs and private businesses.

“When I started my small business, I had no idea where to look for financing and other kinds of advice and support. The “Biz-Clusters” project helped me make the right connections and gave me the opportunity to learn from other women entrepreneurs.”

“This project moved the needle on women’s awareness of career opportunities in construction and also on employer hiring confidence”
