Martine M. Savard: Canadian Pioneer

What motivated me was the intellectual curiosity
that I had.
And to me, becoming a scientist was interesting because I
thought to myself, it would be nice to earn a living
by thinking, by reflecting, by imagining things.
And that's what motivated me to become a scientist.
It's obvious that I knew that there were few women in that
field, but I told myself that I had to go with what inspired me,
and I felt inspired by geosciences.
In fact, my taste for adventure outweighed my fear of being
a minority in the workplace.
I am possibly seen as someone who symbolizes that yes,
you can succeed in non-traditional fields
if you are a woman.
Maybe you feel a little bit less confident at the outset.
That's what I represent, a possibility.
My work environment made it possible for me to grow and I
also contributed to my work environment, to my organization.
I think that makes for a good partnership.
