Purpose: This 36-month project will enhance the economic security of Aboriginal single mothers in Fort McPherson, Northwest Territories by designing and implementing a community strategy to reduce institutional barriers to employment and entrepreneurship. The strategy will be informed by a gender-based assessment that examines the personal, social, cultural, economic, and institutional factors in Aboriginal women’s economic security. The project will also include mentorship and support groups for single mothers in order to assist them to develop strategies to find employment and increase their income.
