Purpose: This 36-month project will promote leadership through economic empowerment for women in inner-city Winnipeg, Manitoba. It will work directly with low income women in Winnipeg’s West Central neighbourhoods by providing them with leadership training, including a mentorship component, to assist them in developing skills that will facilitate their access to opportunities that will strengthen and/or increase their engagement within their communities. This asset based approach will empower marginalized women to gain new skills or enhance existing ones to increase and strengthen their personal and social resources as they move toward economic self-sufficiency. The project will create a best practice model that will be shared with other community organizations across the country.
