Purpose: This 36-month project will focus on increasing women’s recruitment, retention and advancement in technology sector companies in the Waterloo region (Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge), ON. Communitech and partner companies will work to build networks that will lead to greater career advancement for women and offer one-on-one mentoring opportunities and workshops in areas such as negotiation and proactive career management. To address human resource practices, the organization will work with leaders in partner companies to review and improve their internal practices to address barriers women face and support women in seeking leadership roles within the industry. Communitech will also increase awareness of the need for women in leadership and management roles in the sector community. This project is part of the Women in Technology Projects initiative. The Women in Technology Projects aim to provide women the opportunity to contribute to, and advance in, the Canadian Digital Economy, where they remain under-represented. The projects will: address human resources practices, structures and measures in small, medium-sized and large enterprises; and, ensure that women have the necessary skills to become active participants in Canada’s current and emerging technology sectors. These projects will work in partnership with the Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC). The ICTC will develop a common evaluation framework for all funded projects, produce a document outlining the overall results and best/promising practices; and disseminate key evaluation findings for the funded projects.
