Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Economic Development Commission
Location: Wendake, Quebec
Date: 2014-11-18
Value: $249,845.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This 30-month project will address the systemic barriers that limit the economic prosperity of entrepreneurial women in First Nations communities. The project will first seek to profile the barriers and opportunities that exist for First Nations women entrepreneurs overall. It will then refine the results by specifically targeting four Aboriginal communities. Through the project, strategic partnerships with First Nations women, community organizations, financial institutions, local governments and regional resources will be created to identify needs and gaps in existing programs and services. In collaboration with all partners, the project will seek to develop promising practices in order to respond to the specific needs of First Nations women in accessing economic opportunities. The project will diversify and strengthen the business and economic opportunities available to these women through strategies that factor in the specific realities of First Nations communities. Results of the project will be shared with partners and all First Nations communities in Quebec, who will be encouraged to adapt the strategies in order to strengthen local economic opportunities for First Nations women.
