Dr. Roberta Bondar: Canadian Pioneer

It was really important for me always to follow my passions.
And when I was growing up, I had passion to be a doctor,
a scientist, an astronaut.
You name it.
But in those days it was a spaceman.
And I always had cameras, I was always learning how
to take photographs from my uncle and my dad.
I think that curiousity is the thing that probably
drove me the most.
And I felt that all those other things that I was interested in
really provided me some answers and a basis for moving forward
and really discovering the world around me.
I know how important it was for me when I was growing up to have
at least one role model in terms of science and writing and that
would have been Rachel Carson who really combined a lot of the
things that I was very interested in and my parents
had given me her book when I was in grade 10,
so it really had a lot to do with my parents encouraging me.
